Oven Roasting versus Spit Roast

Spit Hog Roasts, which are sold on other sites by other manufacturers, and are mainly imports, are just that, simple, inflexible, utterly pointless if the job you could have quoted for wanted something other than a Whole Roast Pig. Link: Find out what we mean here.

That does not mean we have never used them, 30 years ago we started out in catering with a spit roast we built, but we soon learned that this was not actually the best way to do roast meats, neither is it as economically flexible as a 'pan' roasting oven system, which is capable of so much more than just a 'gimmick'.

Spit roast manufacturers cannot say we do not know what we are talking about, because we were the first in the country to manufacture them, (they were imports otherwise) and we were also the first to switch away from them.

The number of clients we get who are also switching away from the spit roast, for various reasons, to our method of roasting, is ever increasing. Here is an email from just one of many very satisfied customers who made the switch

"Just an email to say thanks, we have used your Hog Roaster 6 times already and it saves a lot of time and hassle compared with the spit type ... Steve, Staffordshire, 2005.

The Embers Hog Roaster

"This was the best investment we ever made, we first bought an Embers trailer, and then came back for a smaller hog roaster to compliment the extra jobs we got." Donald, London, 2008

"Hi, its Peter Allen, just a quick email to say we received the Hog Roaster this morning from the carrier, (good service) and it certainly looks good, first job on Saturday!" Peter Allen, Berwick, 2009.

What Does Our Unit Do?

The Embers Hog Roaster is individually engineered to your needs, it is made so it can do a 'Whole Hog Roast', (with extra joints) cooked quickly and entirely at the event location, or a whole side of Beef, or a whole lamb etc.

As you can see you can prep the pig on the hog roaster and cook it in the unit with the oven cover put on. Please see our videos on how to prep and cook a hog roast on one of our units to see how simple and easy it is.

You can do so much more with our units! The standard Embers Hog Roaster can roast a whole pig, up to 150lbs, with extra joints of meat in separate roasting trays, so you need never worry about the size of the pig, or the amount of meat you can cook. Although this model is a roasting oven, capable of roasting a whole pig, (easily and more importantly, quickly) it is easy to move, being fully mobile, and easy to clean, with most of the components being able to be taken off the unit. Each unit is built to a very high commercial standard, built to greater tolerances than any other comparable unit, giving you years and years of dependable service. We regularly service and maintain units bought from us up to 15 years ago, which are still in everyday use. We can even engineer a unit to your own design, if you have a specialist requirement.

If you purchase the added extras (see the options and prices page) you can also transform the Embers Hog Roaster into a commercial BBQ and have the flexibility of taking it out on other types of jobs that you are now able to quote for; this is the Combined Roaster & BBQ Unit. We can also supply you with extra shelves and roasting dishes to do a 'roast joints' menu, if for example the party do not require a whole pig for the event, but want a various selection of roast meats.

Serving From Any Location

Unlike other manufactured units using an Embers Hog Roaster you can provide carving and serving from any location at the event. For a ground floor indoor hog roast, the Embers Hog Roaster is simply wheeled in prior to carving. However, if this is not practical for the venue, then the whole roast pig is carried in and carved from a five foot long stainless steel tray placed on a serving table where it is required, keeping the wow factor.
